The Big Move After what felt like a lifetime of planning, our family was finally making the big move from New York to Texas. The house we lived in was my childhood home and my husband and I shared it for fifteen years together. This was not going to be an easy task. Our first hurdle was preparing for this huge adventure. Secondly, we needed to drive both cars down. That meant that we would not have the other person to take over driving when our eyelids became as heavy as weights over our eyes. Finally, we would need to settle into this strange new world.
My husband’s family is very close and they all live within a half an hour from each other. They were hysterical over us leaving. It took months preparing them for the final good-byes. As we packed endless amounts of boxes, we emptied

I had called ahead to let them know that we would be there after hours and they were kind enough to open our apartment and leave us a key. I circled the parking lot like a vulture looking for food trying to find the right building. Once I found it, I unloaded the cats and then went around the corner to my sister’s house with the kids. We spent our first night there because the pod was being delivered to her house in the morning. When it arrived, we started the monstrous task of unloading. Carefully we opened the pod waiting for the avalanche of furniture to come down on us. We were lucky to be alive when it all stayed in place. There were three pickup trucks that were loaded up and driven back and forth from my sister’s house to my apartment like an assembly line. The guys did that and unloaded everything into the apartment where my sister and I unpacked everything and put it away. You would have thought we had done this a million times before. We were a well-oiled machine working as a team to make this place our new home. By dinner time, we were almost completely moved
