In the novel The House on Mango Street Esperanza Cisneros whose name “in English means hope. In Spanish its means too many latters. It means sadness” (pg.10). its was her great- grandmother’s name and now it’s its hers. Esperanza shares with us her life when she was younger and moving a lot from one place to other because every new house they tried wouldn’t work out for her family. There was no where else to go so Esperanza had no other option but to adapt to the new community new people and even her school. Later on on mango street Esperanza found friends, Rachel and Lucy who are sisters “come from Texas, Lucy says and grins pg.15”. Friends . . . she was able to explore and talk to about such things like hips. “One day you wake up and they are there. Ready and waiting like a new buink with the keys in the ignition. Ready to take you where? “(pg.49). Don’t all women ask that? why do we have hips? Curiosity of all little girl’s part of human nature haha. “You have them to dance says Lucy. If you don’t get them, you might turn in to a man” (pg.49). Esperanza was able to have conversations with her friends like she never could with anyone
