When kids are maturing from children to adults they have to make decisions that portray themselves to have the capability to be responsible, strong, and mature. Over the course of The House On Mango Street Esperanza's had many goals but, her main goal was to one day have a house of her own. She has always felt unworthy because of her home but she believes that one day she will be proud of her own. Throughout Esperanza's life she always wanted to achieve many goals , but the main problem was achieving them, because she lived in a poor neighborhood she never had that much belief in herself. Esperanza was given high heels, when she put them on and walked in town with the shoes on , Cisneros states “ them are dangerous, you girls are too young to be wearing shoes like that” The heels made Esperanza look older and more mature. Since Esperanza looked older, men were confronting her and she did not feel comfortable, soon after she took of the heels. Even the slightest thing can affect someone's appearance. Even though Esperanza was only wearing heels it made her realize to be more careful and the mature. Throughout the chapter “Four Skinny Trees” Esperanza expresses how the trees are one of the only things that understand her. She has a connection to them. Throughout Esperanza's life she always felt like an outcast and that no one understood her. She believes the trees feel the same way. Cisneros writes “ They are the only ones who understand me. I am the only one who understands them.” The trees give Esperanza strength and help her to believe that it will get better. Esperanza believes that the trees do not belong where they are and should be part of a forest or larger grove of trees. The trees are near roads and there are only four of them. Esperanza does not have any friends her own age and all of her siblings are younger than her. Most of the time Esperanza does not feel included. This is one of the reasons Esperanza has such a strong connection with the trees. Cisneros states “Four who reach and do not forget to reach.” Esperanza believes that the trees never stop reaching towards the sky, and the sky has no limits. These trees symbolize Esperanza. Even though the trees don't belong where they are, they are still living a long and happy life. Esperanza might feel like an outcast, but the trees are telling her never to stop reaching for the sky. Since Esperanza had a hard time making friends it was also hard for her to believe in herself to achieve
