In the story The House of the Scorpion, written by Nancy Farmer,the main character is Matt. The setting is in the country of Opium. In the beginning of the story, Matt was a little five year old that became friends with a girl name Celia. Celia was probably the first person he actually met. The main problem in the book is that matt struggles in his life with all the bad conditions. The solution is Matt crosses the border into Aztlan and finds Maria and her mom Esperanza. At the end of the story, Matt returns to Opium to take over El Patron's spot as top drug lord.
