Some of the major differences between the novel and the movie is that in the movie, Holmes is able to inspect the body of Sir Charles whereas in the book, Holmes has to figure out how he died without getting to see the body. He is informed of the body on page 25 by Dr. Mortimer, who tells him that there were no injuries on him, which helps Holmes conclude that Henry had died from fright, not from the hound. Another major difference between the two works is that there was no mention of Laura Lyons and Mr. Frankland in the movie because there was no one playing those roles in the cast of the film. In the novel, Holmes concludes that Sir Charles died from a heart attack after the account that Mortimer gave him about the death, and in the movie, where holmes inspects the body and sees that he died from fright. Another similarity between the two is that Mr. Stapleton is cruel to his wife, and it is showed in the novel on page 225 it states, “See how he has treated me!” Mrs. Stapleton then shows that her arms are covered with bruises and later it says, “It is my mind and soul that he has tortured and defiled,” which proves how cruel that Mr. Stapleton had been to his wife.
