The Horseman’s Quest As the sun went down in the quaint town of Sleepy Hollow, the Headless Horseman flew out of his grave on the back of his mighty steed. His poor soul was still in pursuit of his head, which he had lost to a cannonball many years ago. His stallion thundered down the streets of the village as he made his way towards the battlefield. He was determined to find his skull, so that his spirit could be completed and move on to the afterlife. The Horseman would never let anyone or anything get in his way. Ichabod peered over his shoulder to see if he was just crazy or if there was someone there. What he saw scared him beyond belief! The Horseman was perched on his horse not that far behind Ichabod. The horseman began to move closer to Ichabod with his axe in hand. Ichabod kicked his heels into the sides of Gunpowder, who lurched forward in full speed. Every now and then Ichabod would look over his shoulder to see if he was still being chased. Everytime he looked, the Horseman would be right on his tail. The Horseman began closing in on poor Ichabod. Once the Horseman was close enough, he knocked Ichabod right off his horse. Gunpowder raced on towards the town and left Ichabod behind. Ichabod crawled backwards trying to get away from the Headless Horseman. The Horseman stopped his own horse and hopped off. He began to approach Ichabod with his axe at the

One of the most interesting things when studying a piece of literature is witnessing character development. This is achieved by something called an “epiphany”. An epiphany is defined as “a showing forth, as when an action reveals a character with particular clarity” (1471). After reading Flannery O’Connor’s “Revelation”, Raymond Carver’s “Cathedral”, and William Faulkner’s “Barn Burning”, you easily see how the protagonist in each of those stories experience their own epiphany. In “Revelation”, the protagonist, Mrs. Turpin, realizes that everyone is equal in God’s eyes regardless of skin color or social status (331).…
