Many people may not know that The Civil War was also known as, “The Boy’s War”, and there is a reason behind that name. It is said that at least 100,00, or 20%, of soldiers in the civil war were under the legal age of eighteen (PBS.org). Both the Union army and Confederate army loosely followed that rule. It seems as though the Confederate ignored this rule more than the Union. According to Confederate Cavalrymen of the Civil War, “The men ranged in age from a bottom limit of 13 and an upper limit of 58…”.…

The Civil War was one of the most memorable and historical wars in America. The conflicting beliefs of the north and south lead to a war that consisted of at least 616,000 casualties. Originally, the war began in hopes to prevent the states of the south from leaving the Union of the U.S. States of the south seceded because of a difference of ideas regarding slavery. Some people believe that slavery was the primary cause of the Civil War, though slavery did play a major role in the upbringing of the civil war I do not believe that it was the dominant cause of the war. The first reason that I believe that the statement that the Civil War’s primary cause was slavery is incorrect is that the war began, to prevent disunion in the U.S but, slavery was only a factor that would cause disunion or secession of the south.…

The path to the Civil War was a long one. There were various points in American history that lead to the war; such as the Missouri Compromise; the Kansas-Nebraska Act; the political idea of nullification; the political idea of secession; John Brown; the election of Abraham Lincoln; secession; and slavery. Before the Missouri compromise states were evenly divided between slave states and Free states. In 1819 Missouri requested to join the Union as a slave state, which would upset the balance between the two factions. In March 1820 Congress allowed Missouri to be a slave state but Main would be a free state and any new state formed in the lands of the Louisiana Purchase of latitude 36°30′ would be Free states.…

While General Kelly, President Trump’s current Chief of Staff, believes that the American Civil War began because of an inability to compromise, I think that compromising on the issue of slavery was simply not an option. Unity was key for America to pursue not only its moral aspirations, but for it to eventually emerge as an economic powerhouse and a world power. Even though the Confederates, especially those belonging to the Planter Class, believed that their economic wellbeing, and perhaps even life itself, was tied to the system of slavery, they seemed oblivious to the gains of industrialization in the North. As a result, the citizens of most slaveholding states, the majority of whom didn’t own slaves, were willing to secede from their beloved…
