The Holocaust, part of World War II, was held from 1933 to 1945. This historical event was a genocide that murdered approximately six million Jewish people. This mass murder began when the Nazi’s believed that they were “racially superior” to the Jews and saw them as a threat to the German community (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, N.d.). The German authorities also targeted others such as the Gypsies, the Slovaks, the mentally and physically disabled, the homosexuals, and many others because of their political, ideological, or religious backgrounds. The National Socialist government developed concentration and extermination camps for the Jewish population. The Jews were forced to encounter transit camps and also forced labor camps.

World War I began with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand who was the archduke of Austria-Hungary (History.com, 2009). Following the assassination, there were many events after that made World War I continue. These events included Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia, Turkey and Germany signing a secret treaty of alliance, Germany declaring war on France and also invading Belgium which lead Britain to declare war on Germany, and Austria-Hungary invading Russia (History.com, 2009). The German’s would not have been forced to take responsibility if World War I would have not existed. Events prior to the Holocaust must be prevented in order for events like the Holocaust to be non existent. To prevent wars, such as World War I, countries needed to start sharing resources. He was in charge of the German government from the beginning of the Holocaust, 1933 to the end of the Holocaust, 1945. Hitler lead and made decisions throughout this historical event. His decisions started with having the Nazi party segregate Jews from public schools, universities, theaters, and overall the German community. He then set the rule to make Jewish people carry identity cards and later they had to have their passports stamped with the letter J. Hitler had the Jewish homes swept and vandalized by his soldiers.
