During this historical phenomenon, Anne continuously recorded the events, her feelings, and her emotions into her diary; she named the diary “Kitty” in her writings. She wrote to “Kitty” as if she was talking to another person. Since socialization was limited, the diary became the only source of comfort allowing her to reveal everything she felt deep inside. Included inside the translated version of her journal, Anne reveals the horrors about the war, like the city bombings that occurred right before her eyes, the cruelty and hatred she had for her parents, her mother especially, and her admiration for a young boy, Peter van Pels, who hid in the annex as well. Anne developed a bond with “Kitty” and recorded every detail of her life; she even wrote very personal things at times. Everything was forgotten the day the Nazis discovered the Franks. August 4, 1944, five men entered the office building where Anne and the seven other Jews were residing. One man was wearing a German police uniform while the others had on ordinary clothes but resembled Dutch Nazi men. The Jews, as well as aids Victor Kugler and Johannes Kleiman, were thrown into a covered truck and arrested. All were forced to leave everything behind, and the Nazis would later claim all their valuables and possessions. With over 40 million copies of Anne’s diary published, in over 70 different languages, the world was taken back and baffled by the events that occurred right under their noses. The story revolutionized the world; movies, radio broadcasts, and a play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett were created to promote Anne and to discuss the terrible journey inscribed in her journal. Once Otto returned to Amsterdam and recovered the diary, he continued the story by adding his own personal words about what had happened to the family; he recognizes Anne’s accomplishments in the last section of the book. He writes on page 283 a few of Anne’s words before they were separated: “I want to go on living even after my death.” The Anne Frank Foundation was created and continues to rapidly grow to educate people and to help Anne accomplish her goal. Anne Frank is an iconic, young hero who acted without having any intentions of doing so; she has left an unforgettable mark on the
