The idea of Modern warfare was something that according to “” Neville Chamberlain would inflict much horror on civilians” (Lualdi, 252). Neville was not aware at the time how true his words would become so much the truth (Lualdi, 252). It seems once the war had begun there were those that seemed to be the target of the fury of Hitler (Laualdi, 252). It seems that what came of this horror that Hitler put citizens through was the Final solution. The Final solution was a system of camps that seemed to be for either making sure that European Jews were going imprisoned or killed between the years of 1941 and 1942 (Laualdi, 252). According to Sam, “he was captured at the age of fourteen from his home in Poland” (252). There was so much hostility and even hate for the Jews during this time. According to Sam, “There was a slogan that seemed to be around even before Hitler of “Jew get out of here and got to Palestine”. This took place in Lodz Poland. (253). It seems that when he was kid he thought it was such a neat thing that he was given a flashlight and gas mask. I am not sure that he was truly aware of the reason that he was given the gas mask and the flashlight he was only fourteen at this time (253). The time in the Ghetto that Sam Bankhalter talks about is that of “humiliation from the Germans” (253). Some of the humiliation that was done to the Jews was the mere idea of cutting off the side curls that that wore and then the Germans would make fun of them and then precede to beat them up (253). What I can take from this idea of humiliation is that the Jews would simply do anything for this type of humiliation to end. It also talks about how the Germans would round up the Jews in the Ghetto area and tell them they only had a short time to leave and could not take much of anything that they owned with them (253).
