Ever had the excitement of going to the movie theaters and watching the scariest movie? You begin to experience your heart pounding, blood rushing, and goose bumps surfacing. The tension builds up with fear on what’s going to happen next. Horror movies have become so realistic; it puts characters into real life situations. Don’t worry, you’re safe in your own environment because after all it is just a movie, right? Just experience horror movies vicariously and witness other people get tormented and killed. What is the deal with horror? It is disgusting and gruesome, so why do people crave it? Horror films have grown and developed over the past decades. Fears in society have changed over the past years. Back in the 1930’s, America did not have any fears concerning the creatures or violence we see on the big screen today. The commencement of the Great Depression struck fear in America. Thousands of Americans have lost their jobs and became homeless. In the 1940’s, radiation sickness occurred during World War 2, contaminating society and devastating lives. The late 40’s involved the combination of military technology and possible alien life stuck fear in society leading to production of sci-fi and horror films
