Introduction This research paper will discern this authors analysis concerning the role of the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John. A review of the “disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23) notable beliefs concerning the Holy Spirit will be examined and reviewed in accordance with the literary and cultural context of the Gospel. In addition, the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament, a more extensive review of the Gospel will be investigated as well as an assortment of Bible commentaries, theology and various doctrinal teachings to discover John’s purpose. All sources will be cited and will be used to expound on and explain John’s point of view. An assessment of the main perspectives and a conclusion of the topics will close out this research …show more content…

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in selective people in the Old Testament, where in the New Testament it permanent to believers (John 14:17). In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit indwelled in people as Joshua (Num. 27:18), David (1 Sam. 16:12-13) and many more. John Walvoord makes three points concerning the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament. First, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit had no apparent connection to that person’s spiritual situation. Secondly, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit was a sovereign act of God. Lastly, The Holy Spirit’s indwelling was temporary. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit’s indwelling strived to restrain people from sin. In Gen. 6:3 it implies that the Holy Spirit strives to restrain people from sinning but can …show more content…
”Jesus himself is the truth (John 14:6); now the Spirit of truth leads the disciples into all the implications of truth, the revelation, intrinsically bound up with Jesus Christ.” All believers in Christ have the Holy spirit indwelt in them and He will guide them into all truths in understanding the Word of God.

Spirit of Truth
Köstenberger writes, the designation “Spirit of Truth (John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13)” is the more straightforward and noncontroversial of all the titles of the Holy Spirit. In essence and in action the Holy Spirit is representative of truth. The Holy Spirit brings people to the truth of God and the Trinity of God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit are all linked with truth. Morris adds, “The Spirit of Truth” thus proves to be a very illuminating way of referring to the Holy
