Islam is a religion that was founded in the year 620 AD in the city of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, by a man named Muhammed. JW Christianity (the beliefs followed by Jehovah’s Witnesses) is a denomination of Christianity that people began studying in the 1870s in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was founded by a man named Charles Taze Russell. While they may seem very different, they are actually similar in specific ways. The holy book of Islam is called the Qur’an. In the Qur’an, it is said that all of the beliefs in Islam originated when a man named Muhammed was confronted by the angel Gabriel, who detailed a new belief system. For example, JW Christianity only has one unclean food – any food that contains blood – while Islam has multiple unclean foods, the most famous of which being pork. Muslims also fast during the month of Ramadan, a practice that JW Christians don’t take part in. Muslims do not consume alcohol at all. JW Christians are permitted to consume alcohol, but only in moderation. Both Muslims and JW Christians abstain from all non-medical drugs, cigarettes, and other addictive substances other than alcohol. Most JW Christians do the same, but those who are trained to do so go door-to-door to teach others about their religion. Despite their portrayal in the media, JW Christians do not force anyone to convert. While Muslims are allowed to engage in war in order to spread Islam, JW Christians are not permitted to enter war at all, following a pacifist lifestyle. Islam is particularly prevalent in the Middle East, North Africa, Western Asia, and Southeast Asia, but JW Christianity does not have any patterns when it comes to prevalence within the regions of the world – the religion is banned in some countries in North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, where JW Christians practice and spread their religion in secret. However, JW Christianity is most prevalent in Sub-Saharan Africa. While Islam and JW Christianity are very different religions, they do share in some beliefs. They both reject the idea of the Trinity, they both believe in only one god, they both believe in the word of their holy books, and both religions have images in the media that do not match the reality of the religions. Although these two religions are very different, they are similar in specific ways.
