The Holocaust: The Most Tragic Events Of The 20th Century

The Holocaust was one of the most tragic events of the 20th century. Many lives were lost, people were used as slaves of labor, people starved, and many had lost all hope. Since the Holocaust many things have changed, we now have religious freedom and people are not kept as slaves. Nowadays people can choose who they want to be and what they want to do with their lives. This dramatic genocidal event consisted of topics such as concentration camps, Hitler’s final solution, Kristallnacht, and Anti-Semitism. “The systematic state-sponsored killing of six million Jewish men, women, children, and millions of others by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during World War II,”(Berenbaum 1) is known to people as the Holocaust. “Holocaust” comes from the Greek word holokauston, which translated means “complete burnt offering to God.” “The word Holocaust usually evokes images of mass murder in gas chambers. Soon after Hitler was chosen as leader of Germany he started making places called concentration camps. These concentration camps were places were places where the Jewish people were held as slaves of labor. They got little or no food at all and were worked to death, killed, or died of starvation. The remaining people imprisoned within the camps were killed, normally by poisonous gases or showers. They would tell them that they were taking them to get exactly that, a shower.
