There are many accounts of different dates used to describe this pogrom and even some saying the attacks lasted weeks. November 1938 was a time of terror for the Jews due to the continuous attacks and downfall of their lives in Germany. Author Michal Bodemann writes “It must be stressed that, following the shooting, the first pogrom-type activities had begun immediately, on the seventh and the eighth of November, but the ninth was remarkably quiet- the quiet before the storm. The pogroms thus came into full swing only in the early morning hours of the tenth.” While the dates can be misleading or not exactly accurate the name is what tells the true tale of that night.…

Nazi officials withdrew passports from Polish Jews who had remained in the country for less than five years. These German officials either had to accept more than 15,000 Jews from the Polish border, or deport them. The Germans had chosen to deport these Jews, and the Gestapo rounded up the Jewish people and rushed them to the Polish-German border, where the Jews were forced to walk on a death march. “With little food, water, clothing, or shelter in the middle of winter, thousands of Jews died. Among these Jews were the parents of Herschel Grynszpan” (Kristallnacht 2007).…

From when Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933, lasting to the day the war ended in 1945, the Jewish population was taken from their homes, put to work, and faced with shocking living conditions. One of Hitler’s goals was to racially cleanse the society of Germany and areas in Poland to become a complete Aryan race. In 1933 the first concentration camp was established. To many, the Holocaust is the first thing that comes to mind when discussing or remembering World War II. I feel that this alone is an argument for the Holocaust being a defining factor for the war; however, there were occurrences during this time that stand out above the others. Not only was there a mass genocide on a particular grouping of people, there were also a vast number of concentration camps and medical testing that occurred during this period. When we are taught about the Holocaust, we are told that this act of genocide was focused on the Jewish population, particularly those residing in Germany. Hitler thought that these people were greedy and evil and had to be exterminated.…

In the past, a mass killing of Jews by the Nazis took place known as the Holocaust. The Nazis had different ways of killing the Jews, one of the methods used would be the transportation to the concentration camps, where Jews were killed either right away or later on, but luckily some survived. One of main concentration camps goes by the name of Auschwitz, or Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest and most populated concentration camps of all time. A bigger history falls with Auschwitz compared to the other concentration camps, but it should not be looked upon more than the other camps as mass killing took place in every single concentration camp. The important things to understand about the camp Auschwitz, but are not limited to are the background, the prisoner treatment, and the purpose of the camp.…

The Germans and the Japanese, which were both powerful forces at the time, were working together. The two countries were very powerful and the other countries couldn’t stop such a powerful force, which left the Germans to do what they wanted like starting a mass genocide. The Holocaust was not only the killing of Jewish people, it was the killing of anybody who lived in Germany that wasn’t up to their standards, or genetically superior. People still wonder how such a terrible event could happen as the world just sat back and let this genocide take place.…

Like all of the survivors of the Holocaust, they all came out of the concentration camps looking at everything around them like it was the first time that they were encountering it. Like Elie Wiesel when him and his group got freed from the concentration camp. One piece of text evidence states, “OUR FIRST ACT AS FREE MEN was to throw ourselves onto the provisions.
