When you hear the word “genocide,” you probably think of the 6 million Jewish people that were brutally murdered by the Nazis during WWII, but you don’t think of the other 5 million innocent people that were killed the exact same way. Adolf Hitler, the chancellor of Germany and leader of the Holocaust, hated Jewish people, he did not want them in or near his country. Due to his hatred of Jews, Hitler committed the greatest Anti-Semitism act in history. Millions of innocent people were taken from their homes and sent to camps where they were starved, forced to work, or killed. Adolf Hitler 's massive act of Anti-Semitism was not fair to the 11 million innocent people that he killed. They could not choose what they believed in, what they looked like, or what sexuality they were. Before World War II, the word "holocaust" didn 't mean much. It was simply derived from the Greek words "holos" (whole) and "kaustos" (burned). "Holocaust" has taken on a completely different meaning now than it did before World War II because 11 million people were killed; of course it has a different meaning than when we had an extra 11 million people living on the planet. The Shoah or Holocaust that took place between 1933 and 1945 was a massive historic event. It changed how non-Jewish people see Jews and how we feel about them.
