New York City has an estimated population of 8.1 million people; Chicago has an estimated population of 2.7 million people. If you were to add the population of those two cities together, you would end up with about 10.8 million people. That is a lot of people, but guess how many people died in the holocaust? About 11 million people died in the holocaust. Anne Frank, a young girl, was one of those many people who died in this genocide. Anne and her family went into hiding for two years after Anne’s older sister received a letter ordering her to report to a work camp in Germany. Annes’ diary became her identity. She used her diary a ton and she treated it with great care. Anne’s writings became a friend to her, and it showed the world what went on in a girl’s mind during this time. First off, this diary is the only reason that kids in Iowa and people all over the world know who Anne Frank is. The diary, of a thirteen year old girl wrote 71 years ago, is the only information people today have of her today. The diary spills out her personal life, the living conditions, her thoughts, and the world through her eyes. If it wasn’t for this diary, Anne would have zero identity today. Second off, Anne loved her diary very dearly. We know she loved her diary by the way she treated it and they way she used it. In the movie, it showed that Anne kept her diary very safe and very private. Right when Anne received her diary for her birthday, she was filled with joy. Anne puts all of her thoughts in her diary.
