Organizations were even set up to help increase the chance of a child not having to experience the atrocities of a death camp. Obstacles were often encountered that had to be overcome. In order to overcome some of these obstacles, major adjustments would sometimes have to be made to their already altered lifestyles. Going into hiding could potentially save the life of a Jewish child, but finding these hiding places could be hard.…

All of the stories are first-person accounts that tell what it was really like to go into hiding during the war. Every Jew in this book came from the Netherlands, and they all tell their story of having to leave their families and lives behind; some stayed with relatives or complete strangers and some were only toddlers while some were teenagers. The reason most of these Jews could postpone getting “rounded-up” was because someone in their family worked for the Jewish Council or their father was a…

Many were not told where it was until they got there. Those who went into hiding were usually children because it was easier to hide them, but sometimes the whole family hid (Rosenberg). For the Jews it was much easier and safer to hide children rather than hiding the whole family. It is much easier and safer for many reasons one is that children are smaller and easier to hide than the whole family. Also a small child would require less supplies and it would be less stress on the people hiding…

However, some families were not so lucky. In some cases, only the children were accepted into other countries, leaving the parents and elders either homeless or forced to endure what was going on back home. When the Jewish people were gathered, they were placed in ghettos, or overly crowded and fenced in cities. This was considered an acceptable way to house the population while still being able to monitor their day to day lives. Theses ‘homes’ were filled with multiple families and provided rather unsanitary conditions for those required to live within their confinements.…
