Holocaust Holocaust comes from the Greek words holos and kaustos. Holos meaning whole, and kaustos meaning burned. Adolf Hitler was the man who finished the job. He believed Jews were not worthy to be in Germany. In the following paragraphs there will be more information at this time in history. Adolf did not start the discrimination against Jews. It started back when the Roman authorities destroyed Jewish temples in Jerusalem, and ordered them to leave Palestine. Adolf just finished the job, destroying the lives of many Jews. The first camp was Dachau, near Munich, in March 1933. The camp was under the control of Heinrich Himmler. Jews were not the only victims of the holocaust. Homosexuals and Gypsies
