In 1938, Adolf Hitler began his conquest of Europe with the Annexation of Austria (Anschluss) and Western Czechoslovakia in order to justify being dictator of Europe. As time passed Hitler invades the rest of Czechoslovakia and in 1939 the world is struck with another when Hitler decided to invade Poland; marking the beginning of World War II. A couple days later Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany. Poland was defeated within a month Germany and the USSR, and was split between Nazi Germany and the USSR. By 1940, Germany continues to take over Western Europe. During all of this, one of Hitler’s main goals was the extermination of the Jews.

Fry believed that one of the main reason the Western World failed to rouse itself more promptly to the Nazi menace was the tendency to dismiss as impossible fantasy the many warning the Nazis themselves gave them. He thought after being at war with enemy for so long they did not understand the nature of the enemy “an enemy who would stop at nothing to achieve his ends. And the ends are the enslavement or the annihilation not only of the Jews but, after them, of all the German peoples of Europe and, if possible, the entire world. (Page 194)

Starvation: Jews were kept on rations often only one-third or one-fourth of what is allowed to non-Jews. Deportation: Hundreds of thousands of Jews were packed into cattle cars without proper essentials (Food, Water, or Sanitary Conveniences). When the cars would arrive at the destination, about a third of the passengers were dead. They also had specifically structured trucks where the Jews were asphyxiated by carbon monoxide from the exhausts. There was burning alive in the crematoria. And standing the victims up and machine gunning all of them into their own graves that they dug.
It wasn’t only Jews, non-Jewish poles were also slain; polish authorities warned that the entire polish population may be wiped out before the end of the war. Thousands of people will be murdered, thousands will not be born, and are being held in Nazi camps. The Nazis and the German army were prepared to eventually retreat, and that would call for the extermination of every living thing and destruction of all physical property in the
