The Holocaust: 12 Years of History World War II was just half of the story. The other half of the story was a very tragic event called the Holocaust. The Holocaust consisted of over eleven million people killed, for nothing but their background. The time of the Holocaust was a very tragic and devastating experience for many people who were killed for no reason but their background, and were treated very poorly; by torture, starvation, laborious work, and other cruel treatments. World War I ended with the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of Versailles was an agreement to end war between the Allied Powers and Germany. A young German man by the name of Adolf Hitler was ashamed and wanted revenge. Adolf Hitler later gained control of the National Socialists, which is Nazism. He tries to gain control of the struggling democratic government, as they were currently in a great depression because of large debt amounts from World War I. Though, he got arrested from trying to gain control. When Hitler was in jail, he wrote the book Mein Kampf, which means “My Struggles” in English. The book reveals his plans to gain total power, and to separate the people he thought was inferior, or undesirable. This specifically targeted Jewish people. The Jews were persecuted by Germany, which was lead by Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. Over eleven million people died in the Holocaust. This many people were killed because the National Socialist German Party thought they were inferior, and wanted to kill them. Also, other countries were not aware of the anti semitism going on in Europe. The radio stations were cut off for all of the Jews, and so they could not contact anyone from other countries.
