The Holistic Nursing Model

Decent Essays
That is very true unfortunately in EMS we are not taught other forms of treatment besides loading people up full of medications. Since I have started this torture called nursing school I have learned of the holistic nursing model. I found it to be fascinating and beneficial to patients who do not wish to consume medication. While in my Health and Wellness class I did a PowerPoint presentation on yoga, which I have since started practicing due to sleep deprivation. About a year ago my sister had to have an emergency C-section while in labor with my adorable nephew, afterwards she refused to take anything stronger than Tylenol. I have also had patients that have a history of substance abuse, one thing I notice is nurses never ask these patients

Apply Orem’s Self-Care Framework to Advanced Practice Nursing. The Orem Self-Care Framework which is also known as the Self-Care Deficit Theory helps the nurse practitioner assist clients in developing an environment that is supportive and promotes self-care and being self-reliant as a goal by identifying deficits in the patient’s ability to maintain their own health. The nurse practitioner can apply Orem’s Self-Care Theory to help clients who have chronic conditions identify their self-care deficits and behaviors to take on a more active role in being their own self-care agent especially if they currently live with a supportive family or spouse before the need may seem to be necessary. However, the individual that is abusing substances causes more physical and mental for himself or herself. Nurses should help clients with substance abuse by aiding them in social interaction, instilling hope, developing self-worth, teaching and educating about their disorders and compliance to their prescribed medication regime. During the assessment, the nurse should be aware that clients are usually in denial and avoidance when asked about their substance abuse. For this assignment I am going to describe the purpose of assessment in nursing as a whole, but also relate this to my field of practice which is children and young people’s nursing. Nursing assessment can be done in many ways and also requires many different skills and approaches to be able to understand the needs of the patient in order for their health concerns to be investigated. This piece of work will look into what assessment is, how it is carried out and the reasons why it is important. Completing a comprehensive, holistic assessment enables the nurse to establish a baseline of information against of which, new and changing information can then be compared (Dougherty, Lister 2011). There are six aspects to the nursing assessment; mental,…

A job title is given to an individual, and it is that individual's responsibility to meet the guidelines of that role. To help make my point I would first like to clarify the role of a registered nurse. The role of a nurse is to primarily provide ways to help assist with positive patient health, minimize patient illness, and care for all (Taylor, C., 2015, p. 8). The one point I would like to go into great detail is the registered nursing error when pertaining to the administering of opioids. I will be discussing how to prevent this from happening by having a great understanding of the six rights of medication administration as well as educating the patient about the safety of opioid medication.…

Another cornerstone of balanced holistic living is internal cleansing. It is a very important step toward improved metabolic functioning and better health and overall well-being. In our modern- day lifestyle, we are constantly exposed to toxins in our food such as pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, additives, preservatives, and synthetic hormones. There are also toxins in the water we drink and the air we breathe. Also, taking large amounts of medication throws liver metabolism out of balance and disturbs intestinal flora as is the case with antibiotics.…

A holistic approach considers the whole situation of the individual, and collects evidence from his social, psychological and biological conditions (Toates, 2010, p19). It is achieved by exercising a biopsychosocial perspective for explaining the causes of the problem, and finding interventions that reflect these causes, (Toates, 2010, p10). The three aspects are equally important, and changes in one of them leads to changes in the others. (Toates, 2010, p13).…

Theoretical Framework For Nursing Practice Unit 1 – Introduction to Theory Learning Activities 1. According to Chinn & Jacobs, there are several meanings of nursing theories as shown below (Meleis, 2007): 1.1 Theory base on structuration – according to Anthony Giddens, the social structure and its relationship with one another forms a theory when a certain action or ideas are reproduced or repeated such as culture, traditions, religion, morality, learning forms a theory or a social structure (Craib, 2011). This structure theory can be replaced or ignored if another theory is proven worthy of adoption such as conversion of religion, changes in learning tools from books to computer or changes in nursing leadership etc,. 1.2 Theory base on goals-setting…
