The holistic approach to substance abuse treatment looks at specific needs of patients, and provide referral based on the needs of the patients. The overall purpose of referral is to address patients unmet needs. The process of collaboration precludes the likelihood of patients becoming misplaced or lost, within the system. Unfortunately, many agencies that work independently of each other provided fragmented services, that don’t provide holistic need of the patients. It is imperative that programs has the outlook that is not feasible that every need can be met by their agency. Patients may need vocational rehab, housing, GED, food, or legal assistance, because of the vast needs of substance abuse patients, multiple connected agencies
