Summary Of The Hobbit

Superior Essays
This book is about Hobbits. Or at least one Hobbit. A Hobbit is kind of like a human and kind of like a dwarf, but is smaller than a dwarf and human. They are quick on their feet and silent. They do not have any kind of magic in them, though some would say that being able to quietly and quickly dissapear from sight is a magic thing.
The Hobbits name that this story is about is Bilbo Baggins. Gandalf, who is a wizard, comes one day to the Shire, where Bilbo lives. Since Hobbits are usually always nice to everyone, Bilbo greets Gandalf nicely. Now, Gandalf and Bilbo's father were best friends, and so Gandalf knew Bilbo, but Bilbo did not remember Gandalf as a friend. Bilbo knew Gandalf as a wizard who would come and convince people to go on adventures,

After he explains that, they all decide to go to bed, so that they can get up early and start their adventure on an early start.
The next morning, Bilbo wakes up, and hopes that it was all just a dream, but when he goes into the kitchen, he sees all of the dishes of a hurried breakfast. He cleans all of the dishes up, and then sits down to eat breakfast. Bilbo is in the middle of eating his second breakfast, when Gandalf comes and tells him that Bilbo will need to hurry off to meet all of the dwarves.
When Bilbo asks where he is needed to hurry off to, Gandalf hands him a note saying where he should be and what time. So he hurries off and goes, and gets there just in time. The only problem is that he has nothing that he needs. Luckily, Gandalf brings all of his stuff, and one of the Dwarves lends him an extra cloak to wear. So then they all leave on horses that they bought for the adventure.
They then go into the forest, which is said to be deadly. While in the forest, a horse gets spooked and runs off into the river. When they go to get it their packs get pulled off by the current. In those packs was most of their foodm so now they have even less food to eat than

Bilbo slips into the circle of his friends, and takes off the ring. They are all very surprised and tell Bilbo to tell all about what happened. So he does, but he leaves out the ring, and about how he turned invisible. They then rest and go to sleep so that they can continue on their adventure the next day. And then they all go and exit the forest, where they find elves camping, but when they try to get them, they always were dissapearing. Each time one of them goes out, they get drowsy and fall asleep. Then the elves capture them and question them all. They tell the elves of their mission, and they are given gifts and supplies for their journey. They are also given new horses to ride, since they lost their old horses because of the goblins.

When the Hobbits Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin; the Men Aragorn and Boromir; the Dwarf Gimli; the Elf Legolas; and the Wizard Gandalf set out from Rivendell they were forced to make their way through Moria after the failed attempt of climbing Caradhras where Wargs pursued them. When they arrive at the West-gate of Moria Frodo had the inspiration to ask for that word and saw it as a riddle. Shortly after Gandalf opened the doors, the Watcher caused a cave-in destroying the gate. They entered through the western-gate near a lake with dark waters from which a tentacle monster emerged and attempted to kill Frodo. When inside, the Fellowship passed through many tunnels and great halls until finally reaching the Chamber of Mazarbul.…

Thorin and the others realized that Bilbo is right and that he would be most apt to lead when Gandalf leaves. The hobbit was always coming up with solutions to the problems faced by him and the dwarves. One example is when spiders captured the company. Bilbo discovered a way to rescue them by leading the spiders away, while wearing the ring, calling them names and singing vile songs.…

People often refuse to help their neighbor because of their narcissistic apathy and consequently make the world an unpleasant place. Yet, in every generation exists a human, or hobbit, willing to face their own personal discomfort, correct their shyness and immaturity, and serve others to make the world a virtuous place. Bilbo Baggins grows into this role by helping his friends regain their home from the clutches of an evil dragon named Smaug. In The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien proves Bilbo undergoes a maturation through his new ability to assert himself in a group setting, his rejection of material goods, and his acquisition of self-confidence as the journey progresses, which proves the novel demonstrates an example of a bildungsroman. Bilbo gains a new ability throughout the journey to…
