In the book The Hobbit, Tolkien demonstrates the use conflict as the main literary element of the story, in the current event of the massacre in Paris it also connects to conflict. In the book, Bilbo and the dwarves face many obstacles, a specific example of this was when they are captured by goblins and the Great Goblin says, ““Smash them! Beat them! Bite them! Gnash them! Take them away to the dark holes full of snakes and never let them see the light again!,'" (Tolkien 64). This quote reveals that during this part of the book there is a person vs. society conflict between the goblins and the dwarves.
