The spiders had captured the dwarves, and “even though seemed small he single handedly rescues the Dwarves from giant spiders and rescues them.” (Dominick, the Hobbit). After the fight with the spiders Bilbo Baggins has significantly matured since the beginning of the novel and has taken on the leadership position the party. Bilbo possesses hidden reserves of inner strength that even Bilbo himself cannot perceive when he firsts sets out on the quest as he builds confidence and resourcefulness. “Bilbo emerges as a true hero showing that there is more that meets the eye and should not judge someone how they look because looks are deceiving. If someone is judged with how they look you may lose the true beauty of their personalities.” (Bloom) Bilbo proves that size doesn’t matter because he, “is metaphorically reborn repeatedly over the course of the novel, more accomplished and mature each time.”
