This is a popular theme that is in almost every chapter of The Hobbit. In The Hobbit, all the “bad guys” at some point in the story - the trolls, the goblins, Gollum, the Wargs, the giant spiders, the Wood-elves, the Master, Smaug, and Thorin - ended up with unfortunate, but well deserved, fates from humiliation to war to death. For example, how Thorin started a war based entirely on greed. Thorin did this because he was so obsessed with gold, silver, and gems which he got in the end, but it came with the death in death and war.
