“There in the distance appeared a glittering sea”(Barker, 67), Candy receives her call to adventure by making Sea Isabella appear in the middle of Chickentown, Minnesota. She meets her supernatural aide, John Mischief. Soon after, still following the heroes journey, she begins the road of trials, facing her fears and becoming much stronger mentally. Candy goes on this journey to find herself after leaving to get away from everything in her world. Her father was abusive and she felt different from everyone else. Getting to the Islands of Abarat was like a sweet breath of fresh air because she no longer felt so alienated. Something changes in Bilbo the next morning and he runs to meet the dwarves after signing the contract. He goes through the trials by facing the trolls and Smaug. Bilbo goes on this adventure to have fun and to explore the Shire because he had never left his home in Hobbiton. There was major character development in Bilbo from the beginning to the end. He starts off as a small conservative little mouse and he ends as a gentle yet strong cat. Bilbo passes down his story and the dwarves live their story in their now growing
