Research done this summer by the University of Queensland in Australia has concluded that harcore music has the exact opposite effect on listeners. The study had 39 participants who regularly listened to hardcore music between the ages of 18 and 34. The participants listed subjects that would possibly irritate them and then they were to listen to music for ten minutes followed by sitting in silence for ten minutes. Participants were then asked to choose music from their playlists to listen to with half picking hardcore music and the others choosing calm and relaxing music. However, those who chose the hardcore music reported they chose those songs to match their anger and calm down. The results of the study showed that the participant’s levels of anger, hostility and stress decreased after listening to the heavier music.
