Occupational therapy has been thought to be used as a treatment for multiple disorders since 100 BCE. Asclepiades, a Greek physician, used therapeutic massages, exercises, baths and music to help his patients cope with stress and soothe their minds. Celsus, a Greek philosopher, used like methods, such as conversation, music and travel with his patients. Europeans, Phillippe Pinel and Johann Christian Rell, used this method to modify hospital systems in the 1700’s. During this time they replaced metal chains with relaxing activities and meticulous work in their strategy.
