Straws are one of the most overlooked items around our houses, but have you ever stopped to think about them? It all started when Leonard Wooley discovered a straw type item in the tomb of Queen Puabi from a Sumerian City. They were made of 5000 years ago with gold and lapis lazuli. It was used for drinking beer without swallowing dregs or chunks. Later in history, Argentina invented the bombilla according to the article, “The History of Drinking Straws.” These metallic objects were used as straws and a sieve for drinking tea. Just before 1888, people used stalks of ryegrass for their drinks. In 1888, Marvin C. Stone invented the first disposable straw.
