Knowledge is the key to success, it can definitely change everyone’s life. The History Boys (Alan Bennet, 2004) is a successful drama, which talks about a group of A-level students who are train for Oxbridge under the grading ideology. School of Rock (Richard Linklater, 2003) is a successful American musical comedy film that portrays a primary school students’ life in which a ruling grade dominates. The system is challenged by outsiders. It is my thesis that both stories depict how a grading ideology is using to control students. School of Rock suggest that this system can be challenged by freedom approach of education. I will development this thesis with the theme of ideology and the aspect of conflict. I will also use School of Rock to highlight the education conflict in both films.

History Boys show most outsiders fail in challenge the new ideology But School of Rock is challenge successful. In History Boys, students ignore the negative effects of the new ideology and accept it. Hector and Mrs. Lintott are unable to prevent the domination of the new ideology. They tried to maintain their own teaching style, but failed finally. Because that old styled methods cannot fit in the modern examination system. On the other hand, Dewey, the loser and outsider in School of Rock. Finally use his hard rock music defeat the grading system. Since his passion of music, touched the students to join the Bands Competition. Although, his band (school of rock) cannot be the winner. But the songs performed by them impressed all the audiences include the headmaster and parents of those students. Dewey showed that there are somethings can be more importance than the academic result, such as personal development and pursue of dream. He showed that every trade has its master.
