There were two major groups that were created and they were called the Yippies and the Hippies.(Cliffnotes, Counterculture) The difference between these two groups is that the Yippies had a more political stand while the Hippies had no political drive. They both supported all the same ideas and groups, the Hippies were just more into recreational drugs, sex, and peaceful gatherings. The Hippies did create memorable events, such as the summer of love. The summer of love took place in 1967, this was the year Hippies became well known across the nation. They believed that they discovered a new way of living which was being peaceful and loving and to explore the mind with drugs and leave the conventional society.(Portrait of a decade: the 1960s) They also believed that the people were hurting themselves by buying things they didn't need with the money they spent too much time working for.
