Good afternoon, today I’ll be talking about the hippie movement.
The Hippie Movement had a prominent impact on the view of American culture and society throughout the 60 and 70’s. This subculture influenced Americans perspectives into how their attitudes are towards sex, drugs, political and social beliefs. The Hippies helped to make America's culture more open. They helped, for example, move the culture towards more of an acceptance of different lifestyles. E.g., the Hippies helped to destroy the patriarchal culture that had stereotyped America. These protests are recognised as the hippie movement, encompassing social movements and demonstrations in the United States between the years of 1960 to 1970 and still the hippie era lives on. The aim of the Hippie Movement was to obtain social justice through nonviolent protests, trying the end the war through love and peace. This is what this photo is capturing. The camera angle used here is a low angle; the effect of the low-angle shot is that it makes the topic look strong and powerful. However the camera is in between both sides giving the viewer the mentality of its one vs. the other (two sides) .fashion would be another aspect of the art. Other details would be the policemen having their hands on their weapons ready to use them, indicating violence and on the other side ironically is peace, which is what the photographer is trying to capture, trying to indicate to the viewer that the government is in the wrong. Through this piece of art, the social movement’s colours really show as the photo does not describe the hippies as being violent but quite the opposite as that is what he/she is trying to achieve by galvanising public …show more content…
A psychedelic artist turns to drug induced highs. Psychedelic art was prominent throughout the 60’s as artist was trying to find new ways to captivate the viewers into believing what they were creating. In this image, hear you can see the patterns and symbols used in image; this was a prominent feature in many artist pieces, as the drugs helped create it. Another way artist captured the viewers’ attention was the music, changing in the 60's as an outcome of rock and roll; stimulated by the use of drugs. The art displays the positive attitude of the artists, reflecting the prominence and change of the period. “Turn on, tune in and drop out” was the phrase used by Timothy Leary in 1967 at a get-together of 30,000 hippies where he expressed this phrase. On his album he spoke about his views about the world and humanity. “The meaning of inner life" he called it, the LSD experience, peace and many other issues. Through the use of drugs, Timothy captured thousands of people’s attention because they wanted to hear what he had to
