In practice, we were expected to do the same warm-up drills before and after. I still remember him shouting “Hit the bags” . Typically, the drills included sit-ups , push-ups , up downs, jumping jacks and my old favorite the bear crawl . We lifted weights in the gym to further tone our bodies keeping an eye out for safety and involving everyone. All of these simple things taught me how to discipline myself both physically and mentally, because I had to push my body and mind each and every day. Constantly reminding myself that I could do it, I had to ignore my body wanting to give up and break down on me . By doing this, I learned determination, hard work and how to set attainable, personal goals. At the end of each practice, we would all get on the line and run for 30 more minutes. This was used to teach discipline, even though you were exhausted and thought you could not go any further, your would force your body to push and push. As an athlete, I began my journey in sports full of dedication, fire, and hopeful anticipation of what I could do on the football field and on the basketball court. Much of my life has been devoted to extracurricular activities such as sports and the comelec, which taught me hard lessons in ethics and values that have made me who I am today. I not only represented my school varsity, but also sports clubs outside of school, which led me to compete in several local and international tournaments. As well as my passion for sports, I grew into my passion for service; service for others and for my school, partaking in clubs and community service activities, each endeavor playing a role in the development of my abilities and expansion of my potential…

Practices are filled with sweat dripping, heavy breathing, body trembling??? athletes who are all pushing themselves to improve. The practices are typically two hours long and are designed to increase fitness and technique. From my personal experience in cross country, basketball, track, and tennis, practices always include some type of cardiovascular training such as running, shuffles, high knees, or fast feet. Throughout my lifetime I have had many experiences, some great, others, not so great, but no matter what, I have put full effort and commitment with everything that I have done. The most valued experience that I have is football. Football has shaped me into the person I am today and has laid a foundation in which I could build my values on. I started playing the game since I was in grade school. Till this day, the excitement of strapping on my pads and hearing the crack of the helmets has not changed one bit.…

I wake up at 6 in the morning, walk by my kitchen refusing to eat breakfast at 6:10, and pack my duffle bag by 6:35. After brushing my teeth at 6:50, I leave for school at 7 with my brother and my father. Classes begin at 7:35am and end at 2:12pm. Standing in the locker room changing my clothes and lacing up my shoes by 2:25, I remind myself why I put myself through this ritual every single day. The gym doors open at 2:30, when dozens of student athletes crowd the athletic directors office waiting for him to appear with the key.…

At the time, I had no idea that I would be subjecting myself to years of failure, all because I chose to let fear paralyze me. I was in my junior year of high school when I first discovered the weight room.…

The humiliating path of failure ultimately led me to the road of success. Admitting to friends and family that I failed was dreadful, if only for the fact that I couldn’t avoid the same question: “Why do the members of your staff have silver cords, but you don’t?” In NJROTC, junior year was the year to prove oneself amidst four hundred other cadets fighting for the same goal- the honor and privilege to become the Commanding Officer for the 2015-2016 school year. As a person the greatest test or challenge that has altered and molded me into the person I am today is to learn how not to be intimidated by something that is large or “scary”. It could be anything a person, a test, a grade, or even a thought. This helps me with everything in life because if you're not frightened you can focus on things that matter. For example, when I’m playing sports and a competitor is big and scary naturally someone would be afraid to play against them but, you do not have a clue who they are or what skill sets they have.…

One of them was self-efficacy that the players that showed up and tried to get in a game with random people that don’t know him and the skill level that he has. Those players were confident enough to play with anyone that allowed them to play because they knew that they had the necessary skill to be able to play the sport and adjust to the skill level that everyone else was at.
