Each day at practice, our coach would make us Run for what I thought were days on end , as well as tell us to do 50 - 100 push ups a day . In practice, we were expected to do the same warm-up drills before and after. I still remember him shouting “Hit the bags” . Typically, the drills included sit-ups , push-ups , up downs, jumping jacks and my old favorite the bear crawl . We lifted weights in the gym to further tone our bodies keeping an eye out for safety and involving everyone. All of these simple things taught me how to discipline myself both physically and mentally, because I had to push my body and mind each and every day. Constantly reminding myself that I could do it, I had to ignore my body wanting to give up and break down on me . By doing this, I learned determination, hard work and how to set attainable, personal goals. At the end of each practice, we would all get on the line and run for 30 more minutes. This was used to teach discipline, even though you were exhausted and thought you could not go any further, your would force your body to push and push. It made me reflect on my choices, Why we Chose to do What it is we were doing. It built a brotherhood over time and that 's more than I can ask for, I found myself motivated to make healthy decisions as well as in my daily routine . To begin with, A chemical called endorphins are released at a faster rate while working out. To further illustrate, my coach once stated, “Every time you exercise, you 're engaging your brain . i never really understood this until after my senior year and getting injured, i was told by my doctors that i would not be able to walk again for a full 6 to 9 months. I took it upon myself to get up after 3 months and start moving again. Endorphins are released at a much faster rate than normal. Endorphins are the chemical known to make you happy. The more you have, the happier you are.” Also, my involvement in athletics left me no time to associate with those bad influences. IT pushed me to achieve, In high school, I went on to play varsity sports year round, My grades improved and my involvement with the Urban scholars Program became stronger .the guys that would struggle with me during practices and games were helpful, and even better attended classes religiously and even took notes. I began to let go of my past. My associations with my team gave me a sense of belonging, and I no longer needed to act out in order to get attention. In addition, many places rewarded local athletes, discounts and offered resources would come as an added benefit, When we had our Undefeated season i started Fully enjoying the recognition, I began building a permanent smile on my face, a bounce in my walk, and
