Being in school for the past thirteen years and being a freshman in college for the first time this year, I began to question the effectiveness of being in school for 6 hours a day. My grades are better than they were in high school and I am not as stressed because I have more chances and opportunities to manage my classes. This leads me to believe that the high school schedule should be modified to a college-like schedule. As a college student, I am able to decide when I would like to take my classes and if I would rather spread out my classes through the weekday or to have a type of block schedule of either attending classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday or Tuesday and Thursday. I can also chose what times are more suitable for me. As a person who likes to attend more lectures than to work independently, I chose Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes. I also feel more motivated during the morning so my class schedule begins in the late …show more content…
This ment that I had to be awake and getting ready by 6:30am, and even as a morning person this was way too early for me and I was always rushing out the door to try to be on time for school. Now on top of being half-asleep and sluggish, I had to be in school for 6 hours Monday through Friday, which meant if I ever got behind there was no time to get caught up because everyday I was learning something new. I was always filled with anxiety and never at ease because school was so overbearing. The schedule and times were both demanding and draining. There was never a time for me to take a breather. The weekends were helpful but all I ever did was work; I was never able to just relax. My grades were less than mediocre and I was always trying to complete my work. The hours of the current high school schedule cause students to be sluggish and full of anxiety, making it harder for students to remain motivated to do well in

After lots of research I decided that we shouldn’t have the same classes 5 days a week and that some classes we don’t need as many years as we get. What I figured out is that we shouldn't have the same classes all 5 days each week but should instead change it up like they do in college. Colleges have found this helps lighten the homework load and make students feel better about it. After I thought of this I also thought do Chem, History, Gym, English, Math, and a foreign language really need as much time as we put into it. High school students are expected to sit through 7 hours of instruction, complete 2-4 hours of homework, have a social life, be active in their family, and get the recommended 8-10 hours of sleep all in one day. Now with studies showing teenagers experience a change in their internal clocks, there has to be some adjustment made. Students are having a harder time waking up and falling asleep early enough to be prepared for school. To help students cope with this change in their internal clocks; high schools should begin later, and end later in the day. Hearing an alarm clock go off at 6:30 in the morning is an awful and discouraging sound.…

To begin with how would having more hours in the day help the students. The time we have the school at now allows all the students the time they need to sleep for the next day. According to an article by Fox News a high school in Edina Minn changing their start time from 7:20 to 8:30 has “improved attendance, decreased tardiness, left kids more alert, and even made them less likely to go to the nurse”. Since our start time is already 8:30 our students will have time to get plenty of sleep. Although the time we start school is okay the amount of time we have in the day is way too little in an article by Nancy Kalish even Paul Reville a professor of education at Harvard said “trying to cram everything our 21st-century students…
