Physical therapy is more of a passion for me than a career choice. Physical therapy has directly and positively impacted my life, as well as the lives of others I care about, and the lives of those in my care. As a future physical therapist, I am driven to help people improve their lives through movement, not only for their sake, but also for sake of their family, loved ones and supporters whose lives have also been impacted. Physical therapy has a positive and transformative effect on many lives simultaneously. I understand, intimately, that for every person I am able to help through physical therapy, there are other people supportive of him or her who are also improving. My time at Star Physical Therapy taught me a lot about the role of a Physical Therapist in a stand-alone clinic, which is ultimately the setting where I see myself professionally. Every professional organization should have a vision statement to inspire its individual members. The APTA’s new Vision 2020 statement is no exception. When I read the information on the APTA’s website addressing our profession’s vision statement “Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience” it was just words (Vision Statement for the Physical Therapy Profession and Guiding Principles to Achieve the Vision, 2015, para.2). Nordstrom, PT, EdD, in the Video: APTA Adopts a New Vision (2013) and I realized I have come full circle in achieving this vision personally. I originally became interested in physical therapy as a profession at a very young age…
