The Hiding Place written by Corrie Ten Boom in 1971, tells the life story of a young girl and her family living through the Holocaust. The book goes through the life of Corrie as she tells about the experiences she had during Nazi occupied Holland and about hiding the Jews that had escaped. Sadly, she is caught and sent to a concentration camp for her actions. Corrie lived through the Holocaust and believes that it is her responsibility to tell her story as well as keep her sister, Betsie’s, dreams alive. Hitler had become the dictator of Germany and began to build the Nazi Army. This is what stated WWII and the Holocaust. However, without knowledge of the Holocaust it is hard to understand exactly what Corrie went through. The Holocaust was the genocide of WWII. Over six million Jews were killed in over nineteen European Nations (Andersen). Adolf Hitler was a terrible dictator who viewed the Jewish community as dirty and not as equal as everyone else. Hitler began to persecute the Jews community soon after the Nazi rise to power on January 30, 1933. The Holocaust and WWII is a time that our nation was under attack as well as our allies, we lended a hand to those in need, much like Corrie and her family do in this book. It relates to this class by telling about the events that took place because of WWII and because of Hitler’s rule. The Holocaust is a major event that took place in our World’s history where many of innocent people were brutally murdered.
