There was once a time in ancient Rome when a rich man lived. He lived with anything that he could wish for. Servants, huge amounts of land, the finest foods, all of it. But he was not a kind man. He had ambition in him. If something got in his way, he did whatever he could to get him back. He was greedy and ruthless. Little did he know what his future was like, and how one small child would change his life. One day, this man was walking down the road towards his home. It was getting dark out, so he was going home from his walk to prepare for bed. When he made it home, he heard a knock on his door. It was a family of a mother, father, and a three-year-old son. He was not sure what to do, just that the child needed to be kept far away from the man and his family. He saw a nearby field and rushed over to the middle of it, gently placing the baby down among the crops. He rushed back to his house and did not return to the field, clinging desperately to the hope that the child’s fate had changed. He did not realize that whatever a mortal like him did would never be able to change the destiny that we set out for a person. The next day, a wealthy husband and wife were walking along the road near the field. THey heard the baby crying and ran to get him. They brought him home immediately. They decided to care for him and raise him aas if he was their own child. He grew up, and many years later, succeeded his adopted father. He, in the
