The Heroine Katniss Everdeen

While I enjoyed the idea behind The Hunger Games because it exposed the corruption of the rich and exploitation of the poor, I did not fully appreciate your portrayal of the heroine Katniss Everdeen because of the lack of character development. My main critique of Katniss is that she did not act like the heroine you attempted to portray her as. She was extremely selfish throughout almost the entire series. In the beginning of the first book, Katniss volunteered in place of Prim, which made her seem like a righteous person. However, she constantly insulted her mother for being useless rather than being sympathetic. Personally, I would have preferred if Katniss tried to coax her mother out of her depression instead of getting angry and rejecting her. Additionally, as soon as she got onto the train bound for the Capital, Katniss complained about the food, which is not characteristic of someone who grew up in poverty. …show more content…
In Mockingjay, instead of trying to help out as much as she could, she chose to wallow in self-pity. This was ironic because she criticized her mother for acting the same way in the first book. I understand that her age may have played a role in that, but when the rebels approached her to assist them in overthrowing the Capital, she resists until she realizes it will allow her to follow out her own revenge plot. A heroine is supposed to put others above herself, but instead Katniss chose to join the rebellion only after it benefitted her

Throughout the book, Taylor explains how her mother influences her. Katniss Everdeen’s Hunting skills vs Hunger Games Opponents Katniss Everdeen who lives in a dystopia volunteers to enter a game of death for her younger sister and prepares herself for what to expect, however not everything can be prepared for. Katniss used her hunting skills to kill enemies, find food but still wasn't prepared to kill humans that had not affected her before. Secondly, Katniss was in the Hunger Games arena for along time and she needs food to survive so she used her hunting skills to find where the food is and how to kill the animal if it is living. On page 198 Katniss kills a rabbit for food using and bow, she perfectly hits it in the eye as she does want the meat to not get spoiled (last it for more important times).…

fiction are slightly ridiculous. They put in an appearance at the stove and behind the wheel of the car, but you can see right through them” (Just). This claim is completely ridiculous because although Collins does place Katniss’ mother “in an appearance at the stove,” after she finally gets medication for her condition and can leave her bed, she most certainly serves an important purpose within the novel, which is not making soup. Her actions sculpt Katniss into the fighter she becomes, and without her fulfilling the role of the checked out parent, Katniss would not have developed the spirit of a fighter at such a young age, since her mother would have taken over as the head of the house. If Mrs. Everdeen took on her husband’s role after he passed away, Katniss would have been able to enjoy growing up like a normal teenage girl, but instead she is denied this luxury because she has to spend her teenage years hunting in the woods and taking care of Prim and her mother.…
