What is the truth behind Jason? On the exterior, I see a very heroic and brave young boy who embarks on a long journey to capture the Golden Fleece and save his mother’s life. He is the perfect representation of a protagonist: young, handsome, strong, and fighting for and against something or someone greater than himself. Therefore, it would be preposterous for me to think he is not the man he appears to be. Or would it? I see Jason for who he really is, a scared, young boy acting foolishly on pure fear and adrenaline. In other words, he is human and he does what any person would do to save their mother’s life and honor their father’s death. Jason exhibits tremendous bravery and strength, which supports his heroic portrayal; however, in all actuality, Jason does what he has to do in order to achieve the goal he set out to accomplish, which is to take back all that was stripped away from him.
Jason possesses many heroic characteristics in which he uses to defeat King Pelias and lead the Argonauts towards victory. When Jason begins to build his team of Argonauts, he pursues men who are fearless and willing to face danger. He wants men with heart instead of men with experience and because of this Jason was is to gain the respect and trust of his crew. Jason is merely a good person with a kind heart who is willing to risk his life for his mother’s. I feel as though this is a task any loving child would do for their own mother. Jason is no hero, he is human. A human who exhibits normal human characteristics such as doubt, love, and endurance. Jason helps the older woman across the river not because he is a hero, but because he is a good person. Every action that Jason makes is fueled by his hope to save his mother’s life, and his ability to simply just do the right
