Fezzik In The Princess Bride

It is widely believed that the sidekick can’t be a hero. In The Princess Bride, Fezzik, who was an unusually large man, performed many heroic actions that kept his friends out of harm’s way. Fezzik saved Inigo, his best friend and one of the greatest swordsman to ever live, from one of the world’s deadliest snakes in the Zoo of Death, a place where the soon-to-be king of Florin, Prince Humperdink, kept many of his most prized captures. Prince Humperdink was trying to marry Buttercup, one of the most beautiful girls to ever live and soon-to-be queen of Florin, and attempting to kill Westley, a poor farm boy who loved Buttercup and Buttercup loved him, so Fezzik and Inigo teamed up to save them both. Fezzik also carried three people on his back …show more content…
“I’m frightened.” (55) said Inigo in the beginning of the story, which was currently how all the characters felt during this scene. Fezzik first had to save Inigo when he was drinking large amounts of brandy and was slowly becoming an alcoholic. “The less you think, the happier I’ll be.” (57) said the Vizzini, Fezzik and Inigo’s once very controlling “boss”, which was how Fezzik was feeling towards Inigo because all the brandy hadn’t fully worn off. “Life isn’t fair, it’s just fairer than death, that’s all.” (206) That’s how they were all feeling at that moment. When they reached the Cliffs of Insanity, a place they had to cross in order to get to the place they were going to take her, no one could climb them, except for Fezzik who carried all three on his back. There was a strange man in black climbing quickly up the rope behind them, which turned out to be Westley, so Fezzik had to climb faster and under pressure. “He can’t hold on much longer, he has to fall soon.” (57) mention Vizzini, yelling right into Fezzik’s face. Even though Fezzik was being pressured, he kept them protected and kept them from falling, even though he felt like dropping Vizzini because he was constantly yelling at him right in his face, which showed another one of his many heroic
