The Hero Movie Essay

The Hero is a visual appealing historical movie staging the attempt of assassination on the most powerful king, Qin shihuangdi. Ancient China was divided into seven warring states and Qin Shihuangdi was the only ruler who had a vision to unite these states under a single empire. During the time of bloody warring kingdoms, king of Qin dynasty was constantly under the threat of assassination by different rulers for the sake of power over the land. Some of the greatest warriors named Sky, Broken Sword, and Flying Snow were fear of king’s assassination. One day a nameless claimed that he had killed all three of them with his expertise in martial arts and by using their weakness. The king was stunned by his act and therefore he was invited to the royal palace. The film goes on with various scenarios of nameless killing three assassins followed by king’s own interpretation of what had happened. At the end, when the king came to know the assassination attempt from nameless, he was killed. The film evidently shows various movements, fighting style, and weapon techniques that were essential skills during ancient China. These skills were integrated with warrior’s life and they were so much powerful that even a king with thousands of soldiers were terrified of one single warrior. In the film, there were numerous battles between nameless, sky, flying snow, and broken sword which exhibits the principles of martial arts such as defense, stillness, breath, power, and mind. The martial art practices were not only used for self-defense or combat, but also for mental and spiritual development.
