The hero in The Princess Bride is Dread Pirate Roberts itself, despite the fact it is not just a man anymore. The original Dread Pirate Roberts is the one who started the legacy of the name, and the true tough man everyone fears. Without him, there would be no hero nor enemy. What makes Dread Pirate Roberts a hero is the way it is used in The Princess Bride. Westley takes advantage of the name, and is able to get Princess Buttercup to talk about why she is marrying another man if her one true love was Westley. He especially takes advantage of the name when rescuing Princess Buttercup from marrying Prince Humperdinck. By Westley becoming Dread Pirate Roberts he acquired a number of skills that help him throughout The Princess Bride story. Westley
