Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what others may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in his/her community. It gives someone the time to his/herself while also creating bonds when he or she are doing the greater good. The effects of volunteering can range from many helpful characteristics. The characteristics can range from helping those in need, giving back to the community, working for worthwhile causes, and overall helping someone with his/her health, mentally and physically. It can keep the volunteer mentally stimulated and provide a sense of purpose. Also, it helps the volunteer to be able to deal with stressful actions that may be happening in his or her life. Being able to have social contact while helping others can have a profound effect on someone’s psychological well-being. There is nothing that releases stress more than a meaningful connection with someone. The more someone gives, the more he or she becomes happier. Just giving in simple ways can help those in need and also benefit the volunteer’s own happiness. Volunteering helps with anger management and even anxiety. Volunteering is definitely helpful for the soul. It can touch someone deeper than he or she would have expected. It can help and affect someone so strongly. The benefits of volunteering are so much more than what people may think. If a person is struggling with stress, anger, or anxiety, he or she can volunteer somewhere and be guaranteed to feel better mentally. The effects of volunteering can be looked at as positive. If volunteering somewhere helps people feel less stressful, then they would have succeeded in causing themselves to mentally feel better. Volunteering can help someone become more independent in his or her life, and lead to living a healthier life. Many results can come from volunteering. One very helpful result is that someone can become more independent and live a more "mentally" healthy life. A good healthy life mentally can be caused by and be the result of helping others. By volunteering, people are helping others. Grimm tells his readers that, "Volunteering may allow individuals to maintain their independence as they grow older and will likely face increased health challenges." Not only does he tell his readers this, but he also mentions that people who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer. The article, "The Health Benefits of Volunteering" says that the older the volunteer, the greater the health benefits will be for him or her. Volunteering at an older age also helps the elderly become more independent. The outcome of volunteering and being more independent can have a positive and a negative outcome. When an individual is more independent, he or she accomplish more things on his or her own, but everyone needs someone dependable.
