The movie “The Help” is based on the book which I have never read even know I bought it. The only thing I know about book was the basic facts which is that it was told by the black women who were maids in the 1950s and 1960s. But I knew it was written and published by a white woman. That is all I can say about it. And I’m glad, because it gave me very few assumption to go with. Before I go on I won’t be laying any spoilers here. Because when people do that, I want to kick them in the butt. Everything that I will mention are strictly about the movie not the book however the reviews I read are really good concerning the movie and the book. The film was set in Jackson, Mississippi, in the 1960s, at the peak of the Civil Rights Movement. Racial tension was high, and at the core of everything that was going on in this town. The Black women who were maids in that town, not only clean houses of their bosses, but they practically raised their children too. So far, they were only seen as “HELP”. I thought it was very educational once people saw the big picture when everything was included in the movie. These women were not just maids or nannies, but people who made real impact in the lives of those they helped raise therefore it was amazingly awesome all together. Octavia Spencer’s character was hilarious without even trying to be at times she brought some comic relief to this film, especially with a running thing that involved a pie not a pie in the face but she put human feces in the pie and brought as a gift one of her mean bosses. You have got to see it to know exactly what I am talk about. I am glad they added a bit of humor to the movie because it lightened it up when needed, and kept it from feeling really

The five women shown in the film were undoubtedly helping the nation, but it seemed to be more important to them for the sake of their community. The women fought hard for equal rights amongst other things. They felt that they were being treated unjustly based on their sex and some on their race. They accused companies of taking in white employees, and then claiming they had no openings. There was prejudice going on against these women, and thankfully something sparked a change.…

As stated before, the timeframe of the story covers from 1910 to 1940, and is set in Georgia (SparkNotes Editors). The book shows the ongoing segregation just as it was during that times as well as the racial tension between whites and blacks that existed before Civil Rights. It also covers the relationship between a male and a female and how it was around the time before women actually developed rights and were able to be more independent and less like a slave. Lastly it covers international scars of slavery and how it was still present in Africa just as the time period reflected within foreign countries. Overall, the book identifies very strong themes which match exactly to the time period which it covers.…

When one black maid wanted to borrow 75 dollars to support her children went to university, her employers refused to give any help. Notably, very few white people in the movie would like to have an equal talk with black maids like Sketter did, most of their conversation was about command and complaint: they simply believed that black people didn’t deserve it. It is a natural thought to treat ‘colored people ‘with no respect to their rights. That said, the racial discrimination towards black people is institutional but not restricted to any single individual. From a few black maids to the entire black population in Jackson, the Help successfully reveals the harsh environment for black people in…

The Help by Kathryn Stockett takes place in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960’s. At this point in history, people of European ancestry are still held to a higher degree than African Americans. This leads to most white families hiring colored maids, referred to as the Help, who have less opportunities and privileges than the people who hire them. Over the course of the novel, the reader takes the story from the point of view of three women: Aibileen Clark, an older black maid who was born and raised in the Mississippi area, Minny Jackson, a younger black maid with a tendency to talk back to her employers, and Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, a white woman fresh out of college. The Help explores the emotions and thoughts of these women as they face segregation.…
