The Help Jasper Jones Summary

.

They employed a very similar structure to their vodcast as we did to my vodcast. They started with synopsis of their texts, The Help and Jasper Jones. Then discussed their contexts, just as I did. They then began their deconstruction of scenes and analysis of issues. Their vodcast is well structured with a consistent discussion between Aaron and Harish. Compared to my vodcast the discussion is much better, they engage in discussing points far more frequently and more effectively then Tim and I did. There tone was similar to ours, they were clear and used terminology and jargon correctly.

However, when discussing scenes of the help they could've played the scenes over the top, like how we did. This would've allowed the viewer to see what they are discussing, which would've been better then them describing the scenes. Also it would've allowed for more time to analyse to scenes instead

We both discussed the scene from the Help where Yil Mae is arrested. They discussed the body language of Hilly while I discussed the body language of Yil Mea and the police. The use of example to show racism was well thought out and considered aspect such as the "drive in cinema" which Tim and I did not discuss. We also both discussed the mistreatment of Jeffery by the cricket team and brought up very similar points, such as how the coach was cackling and how he is supposed to be a role model. But unlike Tim and I they then moved onto their next issue, while I discussed two examples of racism from each text. I'd recommend the use of more examples to show how wide spread the issue of racism is in both texts. However they second issue they discussed was a social hierarchy. They deconstructed a scene from the help where Hilly fires Abeline and discussed how Warwick Trent represents how corragin uses a social hierarchy. Again they could've used more evidence from both texts which would've reinforced their

Stories of maids being abused by their employers, Hilly “helping” Yule May get four years in prison, and Robert Brown being beaten when it was discovered he used a white bathroom by mistake are examples of violence in the book. The change from racial inequality is prevented by violence being used against the black community by the white populations. Stockett uses the violence and racial tension from that time period in the book to add emotion and drama to the story, but it also shows how dangerous change is; anyone who tries to make a change or anything relative to change would be in serious…

I am writing to convey my thoughts and opinions about the article about Mark Duggan. Some of the facts and opinions were controversial because there were many issues which you wrote about in the article which effect his race, for example you have wrote about the way he had a curious hybrid accent and the way you wrote that Duggan was a gangster not Nelson Mandela. This manipulates many readers into making judgments about people by the way they look, without even knowing how the person really is. Firstly, in the headline it states; “Duggan was a gangster not Nelson Mandela.” This comparison is manipulative as you trying to show that he is the opposite of Mandela.…

The ending of The Help had a few downfalls that I did not necessarily like. First, I disliked the fact that Elizabeth fired Abileen based off of what Hilly told her. Elizabeth was told Abileen store silver, when it was Hilly’s maid who did it. I do not think it is fair that she got fired and Elizabeth did not even know the entire story. Secondly, I did not like that Hilly gets Minny’s husband, Leroy, fired and be told that it is Minny’s fault.…

Prejudice In the Society of Maycomb County “Prejudice is a learned trait. You’re not born prejudiced; you’re taught it.” Charles R. Swindoll once said. This quote relates to the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, because we see how racism in society influences the kids. Jem, Scout, and even Dill realize how the people of Maycomb treat others who are different than them.…

The main theme I received throughout the book Kindred was about racism, this is because of the way white people treated black people. An example is how the patrollers behaved towards a black man. The patrollers had busted into a black family's home and started interrogating the black man. He had said he has a pass. Therefore, they demanded they see his pass, but he didn’t know where the pass when.…

Shivam 1 Shivam Gupta Professor Keith MacDonald Composition 1 20 October 2017 Read Like a Writer In Mike Bunn’s “How to Read Like a Writer” he explains how one can become a better reader simply by trying to understand the article from the point of view of the writer, by analyzing every word, sentence or paragraph with one question in mind, "what effect did the writer intend to have with these words?". I believe it is important for us to have this skill because it gives us a better insight into what we are reading, it helps us understand on a deeper level exactly what the article is trying to tell us and in response, this teaches us better techniques and skills to become better writers. Using guidelines set by Bunn in his article, I will illustrate…

Racism is the prejudice against people regarding the country they came from, the colour of their skin, and the language they speak. Racism is a theme that is seen all over the world and also plays a big part in our modern history. In the novel to ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and the film ‘Remember The Titans’, the racism prevalently between black and white Americans is dealt with in a numerous amount of ways. The novel is not a true story but is based on life at the time whereas the film is based on real events that happened. Throughout both the film and the novel there were many similarities with how racism was dealt with including the two female narrators and the two protagonists that did not believe in prejudice against race.…

Second, mental racism which always accompany physical discrimination and segregation. Surfaces mental racism could be the old assumptions and actions which is made unintentionally and unquestionably but reveals discrimination. It is embodied by the fact that blacks were seen as servants, it was an acceptable and very common profession for blacks during the apartheid regime. In addition it would be unacceptable when they aim for a more respectable profession, the reason beyond that is the assumption that the minorities “whites” were seen as the master race who have qualifications which the blacks lack according to particular stereotypes associated with them. This is evident in the opening lines of Gordimer’s work “july bent at the doorway and began that day for them as is kind has always done for their kind” it becomes clear that July’s kind carries “the tea tray In black hands smelling of lifebuoy soap”.…
