The World consists of many different groups of people, who have their own behaviors, traditions, and lifestyles. One of the many groups that still exist today is the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club. Founded on March 17, 1948, in Fontana, California, this motorcycle club is known for their acts of violence, distribution of drugs, and their love for riding motorcycles. Although they are present throughout the globe, mainly in the United States, the Hells Angels have become a subculture in our culture by having their fearless appearance, their own traditions and rules, and their own way of living. Although the Hells Angels like to be referred to as motorcycle club, many people including the law enforcement call the Hells Angels a motorcycle gang. The Hells Angels have all the traits for being a gang. They have a group of men doing stuff that any other gang would do. But why is it that they don’t like being called a motorcycle gang? And prefer to be called a motorcycle club or “1-percenters”? “Knox said the groups believe they are above the law, and want to be known as “1-Percenters”” (Hallman). And Of course a motorcycle club rather than a motorcycle gang. The Hells Angels have gotten bigger over the years and have only gotten stronger. “The U.S. Department of justice says the Hells Angels now have as many as 2,500 members in 230 chapters in 26 countries, and are a major source of drug-trafficking” (The Associated Press). The Hells Angels get involved in many different types of crimes, including Extortion, drug dealing, trafficking in stolen goods, and prostitution. This is mostly how the Hells Angels get most of their wealth from. However according to O’Neill police say that the Hells Angels have only gotten bigger and fear that they will never be able to stop them (18-21). These men also have a lot of conflicts with other motorcycle gangs. For example in 2002 the Hells Angels and a rivalry Motorcycle gang, the Mongols had a brawl at a casino in Nevada California while attending a motorcycle rally. The fight started because of a territorial dispute between the biker gangs. “Three men, all motorcycle gang members, were killed and about a dozen others were injured in a shooting and knifing brawl that broke out in Harrah’s casino early this morning among rival biker attending a huge annual motorcycle rally.” (Kuczynski).
