Every human to ever exist carries a hard working pump inside their chest. The pump is called a heart, and the heart’s main function is to deliver a supply of blood through blood vessels throughout the human body. According to research, the heart is a muscle that repeats the same pumping action during the whole lifespan of an individual and is about the size of ones fist. The heart is made up of several elements like the aorta and the mitral valves, along with other vital parts. When we think of a muscle, we imagine skeletal muscles, the muscles that display how strong one is. In reality the heart is a cardiac muscle with thick muscle tissue that contracts to pump blood outward and when the muscle relaxes the blood is allowed back in. This process is known as the circulatory cycle. There are many fun facts to know about our personal pump, but there are also many scary facts that can cause our lifelong companion to shut down, and when it shuts down, so do we! We know that the heart has atria and ventricles which are two chambers that are on each side of the heart, one is on top and one is on the bottom. …show more content…
According to my research, I have found that the heart is part of the circulatory system and the system is composed of the heart and blood vessels which consist of arteries, veins and capillaries. If the heart wasn’t part of the system then blood would not be able to get around the body. Think of it like a pump for a fish tank, without the pump, the fish would die for lack of oxygenated water, in our case, our bodies need oxygenated blood throughout our organs. It is important because when the oxygenated blood that is transferred to the organs in our body, the blood is deoxygenated and needs to pass through the heart again and through the lungs to get re-oxygenated in order to be reused in the circulatory
