Hospitals are required to attempt meeting high quality standards as described in Prevention of Hospital-Acquired Infections, WHO recognizes that older facilities and facilities in developing countries may not be able to achieve these standards, however the underlying principles should be kept in mind when local planning and changes or revisions are made. (WHO, 2002)
The facility assessed is Riverside Hospital, specifically, Orthopedic unit. This is a Private (not for profit) health facility, and one of the group of hospitals belonging to Ohio Health hospitals, located in Columbus Ohio. According to Jhsph, (2010) the ecological Models in Public Health is used to Organize thinking, Guide design of interventions and to Evaluate effects of interventions. Areas of ecological model in Public health, include Social/Policy, community, Institution, Interpersonal and finally the individual. In view of this, in the evaluation of the Hospital in patient community, the ecological model becomes a necessary tool used for this assessment and evaluation.

There are units of employees, whose main responsibilities is infection control in the hospital. Some or their duties include investigating, Performing surveillance and generating reports on nosocomial infection rates, Develop policies and procedures for infection control including isolation precautions, Educate hospital personnel regarding infection control, Participate in providing employee health services related to infection control, Participate in monitoring and controlling antibiotic use.
